Emotional Ugandan trip for Jane

A Castlerock woman is in Uganda this week to meet four children that she has been sponsoring for the past seven years.

Jane Gribbon, has been sponsoring the children, aged between nine and 15 through Irish charity World Vision.

“It’s a trip I never thought I would make,” Jane told The Times on Friday, as she was about to depart for her flight.

The chidren, Marble (14), Costance (15) and David (13), are all in the Lunyo Area Development Programme.

A fourth child, also sponsored by the Castlerock woman is in another village, her name is Wilson (9), and she lives is Busitema.

“As a sponsor you get regular correspondence and pictures from the children,” explained Jane. “And a report at the end of the year about the progress the child has made.

“The money donated through sponsorship goes to the child’s community, supporting schools, health centres and livelihoods- giving the child’s family and community the best chance in life.” said Jane.

Jane admitted that she has mixed emotions about meeting the children. “I really don’t know what to expect,” she said. “I never dreamt that I would ever get to meet these children. “Jane has a parcel for each of the children: “There is a limit to what you can take, but I have a little wash bag with creams, tissues and bits and pieces for the girls. I have wind up lamps for the boys, as there is no electricity in their villages. I have also included some pens an paper and a calendar of images from Northern Ireland.

So I will leave a wee bit of Northern Ireland in Uganda,” joked Jane.
