Engines revved for Ingram Memorial Run

AFTER the success of last year’s John Ingram Memorial Motorcycle Charity Run the Rathfriland Motorcycle Club are hoping once again to be welcoming around 160 bikes and trikes.

The run, which will be the fourth in the event’s history, will again be held on Sunday October 2 and assembling as usual in the Coach Car Park, Banbridge at 2.00pm.

For all the roadside spectators who lined parts of the route last year the run will leave the Coach car park, travel through the town centre and join the A1 and on to Newry.

From there to Rathfriland were we will be stopping briefly in the square before heading on to Hilltown, Rostrevor, Kilkeel, Newcastle, Castlewellan and ending up back in the Civic Buildings, Banbridge at approximately 4.30pm.

On arrival back, the participants will be offered a much welcomed cup of tea and sandwich which is once again kindly provided by the council in their beautiful chambers. During the refreshments the club are intending to hold a short raffle.

A spokesperson for the club said, “The club are very grateful for the continued support and help from Banbridge District Council, especially the Chairperson, Joan Baird, and Councillor Elizabeth Ingram, who will both be attending the start of the run to see us off.

“The run has been named in memory of the late Mr John Ingram who was a past council Chairman and the Rathfriland Motorcycle Club’s Honorary President.

“This year’s chosen charity to receive the money raised will be Newry and Mourne Multiple Sclerosis Community Therapy Centre. They have brought great comfort and treatment to MS suffers for two decades with the use of High Dose Oxygen Therapy.

“HDOT, which limits damage and accelerates the healing process, has become an accepted therapy for over 100 medical conditions including sports injuries. Regularly you read of the top motorcycle riders throughout the world using these hypobaric chambers to treat their injuries after an accident.

“With only a couple of these treatment centres in the Province the catchment area for their patients is quite large. Last year this event raised £800 which was presented to the chosen charity at the club’s AGM in November.

“The club would finally like to appeal to all the bikers before they hang up their leathers and park their bikes up for the winter, to attend the event, have a bit of craic and together help to raise the much needed funding that supports a charity like this one.”
