Enjoy more nights out at the theatre in 2013

FOR anyone who is still struggling to decide on a New Year’s resolution, Theatre at The Mill may have the answer.

With the new season programme now available and a range of unmissable shows coming up in 2013, there is no better time to get out more often with friends and family.

Resolution 1: Have more dramatic nights out - The Diaries of Adam and Eve, a witty modern play about the world’s first couple, confronting their many differences to find a successful way of living and loving together, will be coming to the Newtownabbey venue on Thursday, January 24. The best of Northern Ireland’s amateur dramatics groups will compete in the Northern Ireland One Act Drama Festival on Saturday, January 26 for the chance to represent NI at the British Festival 2013. Two Irish plays will be staged at the Courtyard Theatre on Saturday, February 9. Cooley Women follows the tales of Queen Maeve and the two Morrigan sisters taken from the Ulster Cycle of Irish myths and legends.

Resolution 2: Laugh more - For a night out filled with laughter, travel back to 1920’s Belfast for Comedy of Errors - The Musical, Theatre at The Mill’s spring ‘home spun’ production, running from Tuesday, February 19 - Saturday, March 2. This witty new musical translation; now preformed in Belfast dialect, explores the love, loss and reunion between two long lost twin brothers in a series of chance encounters and is recounted with catchy musical numbers.

Resolution 3: Let your mind travel - Let your mind drift away to Paris and celebrate the life and music of the legendary French singer Edith Piaf with Edith Piaf - The Songs on Saturday, February 2 at Theatre at The Mill. Regarded as one of France’s most popular singers, her interesting but troubled life was less ‘La vie en rose’ and more ‘La vie en noir’ but still her music plays on almost 50 years after her death.

Or for something totally different, see one of Italy’s premiere dance companies direct from Milan in a mix of dance, music and words in I Am Son on Wednesday, March 6.

Resolution 4: Spend more time with the kids - For family days out this year explore the magical musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Little Red Riding Hood at Theatre at The Mill on Saturday, March 9. Be prepared for a few of Roald Dahl’s twists and turns in this dark and funny take on the traditional fairytale. Or for children aged eight and under, why not follow the Easter bunny and hop over to the Courtyard Theatre on Sunday, March 24 to join Mr Hullabaloo and his cast of his colourful puppet friends for an Easter Eggstravaganza.

Resolution 5: Listen to more music - For music in early 2013, join one of Ireland’s best and most popular concert performers for An Evening With Dominic Kirwan as he visits Theatre at The Mill during his nationwide tour on Saturday, January 19. Only limited tickets still available. On Thursday, March 7 Theatre at The Mill will host one of Scotland’s most popular singer-songwriters, Isla Grant, as she makes her welcome return visit to Ireland. At the Courtyard Theatre enjoy a relaxed evening of light classical music with Young Artists preformed by some of Northern Ireland’s most talented young musicians on Tuesday, February 12.

Resolution 6: See more films - New for 2013, enjoy some classic, family and must-see movies on the big screen at the intimate and cosy Courtyard Theatre Picture House at Ballyearl Arts and Leisure Centre. As part of this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day watch the heart wrenching The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas on Sunday, January 27. For a family day out join Mowgli, Baloo and Bagheera in the timeless family favourite The Jungle Book on Sunday, February 10. Or treat your loved one on Valentine’s Day with the ultimate romantic movies Gone With The Wind and Dirty Dancing.
