Fashion fundraiser for local charity ahead of return to Kenyan orphanage

The small charity, which, in the past twelve years, has aimed to show practical Christian love to children orphaned by the aids epidemic in Kenya.

Since 2000, the charity has developed from small beginnings. Initially caring for 24 children in a mud hut in Oyugis (250 miles North West of Nairobi), the charity has now established a home for 20 children in Nairobi and has, in the past two years, constructed a new home to accommodate 50 children close to Oyugis.

Teams of members, mainly from the Coleraine area, have worked with local Kenyan labour to construct the new building on land acquired from a local family who also share the vision of supporting orphaned children. In January 2012, the local Chief and the Government’s District Children’s Commissioner were involved in the opening and selection of the first intake of 25 children.

In January 2013 a team, many of whom have been involved in the past two years, plan to return to Kenya for 11 days. This year the emphasis is on providing a project which will provide a sustainable income for the orphanage.

A poultry house for 500 laying hens is planned, which will provide both an income and work experience for the children. The team also plans to complete a kitchen, garden and a play area.

There will be no admission charge and 100% of all donations on the night will go towards the work of this very worthwhile charity. The show begins at 8pm.
