Festival at the Lakes the climax to week of events

Festival at The Lakes will take place at Craigavon Watersport Centre and the PSNI and other Emergency Services will provide a number of displays focusing on road safety and community policing.

This event will bring the week long Brownlow Festival to a close.

Running from Friday, 29 August, the Festival has a week long programme of activities for all ages and it is hoped that everyone will come along to celebrate the grand finale on Saturday, 6 September.

The Festival at The Lakes will begin at 12 noon, although the more active among us can start their day with the Park Fun Run at Craigavon Lake at 9.30am.

There will be something to suit everyone with archery, a climbing wall, boat rides and a dragon boat race. Those attending will be entertained with live performances from Moyraverty Arts Drama Group.

PSNI, in conjunction with the Ambulance Service and NIFRS, will also stage a mock Road Traffic Collision with members of the public getting the opportunity to take on the role of passenger in the car.

Sgt Peters explained: “One of our local policing plan objectives is to improve road safety and we want to use the mock collision to show the very real consequences of careless and dangerous driving. With the help of our colleagues in the Fire and Rescue and Ambulance Service we will demonstrate the trauma and reality of being involved in a serious collision.”

As part of Brownlow Festival, representatives of the Committee welcomed the Summer Film Fest to Brownlow Hub to showcase the hugely popular film How To Train Your Dragon 2. Featured in the picture are Brownlow Festival Committee together with Council Officers Tracey Johnston, Donna McConville and Peace 111 Project Officer Nicola Evans. The project was supported by the European Unions Peace III Programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

The public will also have the opportunity to inspect some police vehicles and equipment at close quarters. Liveried police cars and landrovers will be on display along with police motorbikes and quads.

Gerry McIlroy, Chairperson of Brownlow Festival, said: “This is the third year in which the festival committee have worked with a range of partners to deliver a range of free activities across Brownlow.

“The Committee aim to promote an inclusive cross cultural week long series of events celebrating all that is good in Brownlow. This year the week long event is being supported by Peace 111 Southern Partnership - Future Foundations priority and the Festival Committee are also working closely with representatives of the British Heart Foundation Northern Ireland in order to highlight heart disease and raise funds for this important research charity.
