Four acts to hit the stage at Alexander’s

ONE Word Productions is to play host to another fine assortment of musicians and bands tomorrow night (Saturday). Word on the street is circulating and the eclectic magnetism spurring from Alexander’s Bar, Lisburn is one that should be experienced by all. This month is sure not to disappoint as a further four acts will grace the stage.

First up on the night will be Johnny Vans, a local singer/songwriter who focuses his acoustic folk/blues motion upon the cycling trivialities of both life and experience. Continually inspired by music and song, Johnny is to be found in many local haunts and centres his acoustic artillery round the “thrill of not knowing, and then writing about it.” Lengthy hours of studio time have been spent and now Johnny is ready to unleash his virtuous songs to capture the mind-sets of the Lisburn public.

Complementing such an insightful inception, next on the bill is the honest and emotive tones and lyrics of Nina Armstrong. Nina has graced many a stage and shared platforms with such figures as Liam Ó Maonlí (Hot House Flowers) and John Spillane. Renowned for appearing at various festivals and musical events throughout Ireland (Glasgowbury festival, Indie Summer Fest) Nina is an inspirational singer/songwriter delighting the public wherever her acoustic adventures take her. No stranger to studio or radio, Nina has articulated many a fine song, which when heard is sure to hypnotize the eager crowd with amazing clarity.

Beginning their musical life in early 2006, Smoking Tongue, the supporting act of the night are founded on an impressively tight rhythm section, which is smothered by effect laden raucous guitars. Transporting audiences with their thoughtfully crafted songs blended with their attitudinal guitar and driven riff aggression, this Lisburn based four piece are an exciting live act and the opportunity to see the band play live is one not to be missed.

Formed in 2010 the headline act on the night, A Northern Light, are an alternative three piece rock band based in Belfast. Heralded as having a diverse style and ceremonial sound not dissimilar to that of Pendulum and Blink-182, the band claim their major objective is to “inspire solidarity and optimism among its listeners”. A Northern Light are on the verge of releasing their debut, double-A side single - ‘Pilgrim’/’March Into The Light’ – which sees the band further-crafting their own eclectic mix of traditional band and electronic music. A Northern Light are marching toward a bright future; with plans for a full-length debut album already in the works, and a strong DIY ethos, the band are set to achieve great things in the coming months.

This is surely to be another enthralling spread of entertainment laid down by One Word Productions in Alexander’s Bar, Lisburn on Saturday August 11, doors 8.30pm.
