Free help for people facing repossession

RECENT statistics show an increase in the number of Northern Ireland households facing repossession.

Housing Rights Service (HRS), the leading specialist housing advice charity, has stressed the importance of attending court hearings and getting free help provided by a brand new scheme.

In July Justice Minister David Ford approved funding for Housing Rights Service to pilot a specialist advice and representation service for people facing the imminent threat of repossession on the day of the court hearing.

Maria said: “We understand that people can be nervous about attending court and often think all is already lost. Attending your hearing is essential it really increases the chances of being able to keep your home.”

As a result of this funding Maria can offer people who don’t have representation emergency advice and assistance and if appropriate accompany them to their hearing.

Maria continued: “This service is absolutely free so remember when you get to Court to look out for me or my colleague Eamonn. It really is never too late to seek advice.”
