Fun for all the family at Wallace Park

Wallace Park will become a hive of activity this summer with the launch of its third year of highly successful Park Life Free Family Fun Days, which will take place every Saturday and Sunday in July and August.

This Saturday June 29 will kick off with Circus Circus and children are encouraged to come along dressed up in their favourite fancy dress costumes to join with fabulous Wizard of Oz characters including Dorothy in a yellow-brick road parade.

There will also be bouncy castles, street theatre, trapeze artists and face painting in the beautiful surroundings of Wallace Park.

Each week the Park Life weekend entertainment will be featured on the Lisburn City Council website and will include details on treats just waiting to be discovered by children.

There will also be a large-scale Ulster Scots culture event, named the Forgaitherin, with music, teenage zone street art, culture and dance in August. A Mini Sports Festival in Lisburn City’s year as a designated European City of Sport will also feature in the busy calendar of events for Park Life.

There will be bands playing in the park every Sunday from around the local City area, including Bailliesmills Accordion Band, Drumlough Pipe Band, Magheragall Pipe Band, Lisburn Young Defenders and the Harry Ferguson Memorial Pipe Band. Newly formed band, Dynamic Brass, will also take centre stage for the first time in Wallace Park.

The Chairman of the Leisure Services Committee, Alderman Paul Porter, said: “Wallace Park is looking the best it has ever looked and it’s wonderful to see so many people out and about and enjoying its surroundings. I hope to see many families with mums and dads, grandparents and aunts and uncles come together with the young children in the family to be entertained over the summer months.

“We are delighted to put on a bigger, better and fuller Park Life programme this summer for our citizens. We have really tried to bring new, exciting and creative acts and entertainment to Wallace Park and to encourage children and young people to join in this shared space and get involved in the fun.

“I would encourage everyone to get a copy of the Park Life leaflet or check out the Lisburn City Council website to see all the exciting activities on offer this summer and to plan ahead,” he said.

Park Life events will take place every Saturday and Sunday from Saturday June 29 to Sunday September 1.
