Fun for allthe family at Castleward

National Trust property Castle Ward hosts its annual Pirates’ Picnic on Friday July 12 for children and adults of all ages.

Located between Downpatrick and Strangford, the event plays home to a plethora of activities from walking the plank and tog o’ war to treasure hunts, face painting and a best dressed pirate competition.

Visitors also have the opportunity to make their own Jolly Roger flags, eye patches and pirate jewellery, or head to the Barn for an array of exciting crafts and activities. If the sun shines there will even be horse and carriage rides available.

The beautiful Castle Ward mansion will be open and free for all to visit. Property grounds open from 10am, while the gift shop, tea room, mansion and second-hand book shop open from 11am to 5pm. Pirate activities run from 1pm to 5pm.

Normal admission fees apply, while National Trust members can take advantage of their free admission to all properties.
