GCSE results day at North Coast Integrated College

Although happy, it was a strange, subdued GCSE result day at North Coast Integrated College in Coleraine.

Some pupils received their results from masked teachers; some students wearing masks. A spray down of tables and seats once the pupil and parents left to be ready for the next pupil receiving results.

Principal Mrs Passmore explained that although she was delighted for the achievements of the pupils “in the past there would have been high fives at the very least- maybe even a hug! It is hard for someone to see you smile behind a mask.”

This year as the pupils received their centre assessed grades there were no surprises. Teachers spent a long time gathering up the evidence and moderating pupils work.

“Every pupil’s grade achieved was truly deserved.”

Mrs Passmore added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers and classroom assistants for all their hard work. I know that the Zoom meetings, which for some took place while home schooling their own children and continuing with teaching the other year groups, were hard going at times.

“I would also like to congratulate all our pupils. The college community is so proud of the young adults that they have become and we wish them all the very best in the future.

“We are looking forward to welcoming back all our students and will appreciate the luxury of being back in the classroom...even if it is wearing a mask and keeping socially distant!“
