Giant’s Causeway features in fangtastic Dracula film

The Universal Pictures production of Dracula Untold, to be released on 3 October, was filmed at well-known National Trust locations in Northern Ireland including the Giant’s Causeway, Mount Stewart and Divis and the Black Mountain.

It will be hard to miss the world famous Causeway stones which double as a fictional mountain in Transylvania – with a little CGI help.

Jon Kerr, National Trust manager, said: “We can’t wait to see our places feature on the big screen and we encourage visitors and film buffs to come and explore these special locations for themselves this autumn.”

“As well as the huge profile that filming brings, every film shot in National Trust places generates income which helps to look after the place in which it was filmed.

Location manager, Catherine Geary felt that the variety in Northern Ireland was perfect for the movie.

Speaking about the locations, she said: “It was wonderfully atmospheric and grey - stunningly desolate and perfect for the Transylvania plains.

“A lot of films that come here think they have to travel far, but an hour to the south you are into forest and mountains and an hour north and you’re into Jurassic coastline.”

Starring Luke Evans, the storyline is based on the original Bram Stoker novel and it also explores the origin of Dracula.

The film weaves vampire mythology with the true history of Prince Vlad the Impaler, depicting Dracula as a flawed hero in a tragic love story set in a dark age of magic and war.

The epic action-adventure co-stars Dominic Cooper, Sarah Gado and Charles Dance.
