Hezlett allotments

National Trust North Coast has spaces available on their allotments at Hezlett House, Castlerock.

As part of our on going initiative to encourage people outdoors, the National Trust have opened up areas of land for the public to hire and grow their own fruit and veg across the region.

Estate Ranger John Herbert explains: “Here at Hezlett House we have created a community allotment space for all the family to enjoy. A wonderful way of learning, getting fit and controlling what you eat, at a fraction of the cost!

“On top of the plot of land, holders will have use of a large poly-tunnel, composting area, rainwater catchment / dipping stream and to get things going, we’ve even got a bee hive to help with everyone’s pollination all within our secure site at Hezlett House.

“This is a fantastic chance for anyone who’s being thinking about growing their own but perhaps doesn’t have a garden or even just wants to get outside. We’re catering for the general/beginner grower with plot sizes approximately 30sq. meters & the poly-tunnel space. At £30 per year this is great value for money.

We hope it turns into a thriving little community where plot holders and families can exchange ideas, swap produce and get active. Growing your own is easier than you think and so rewarding.

“You’d be amazed what you can produce in a small area. And with all the facilities at hand this is a great way to start.”
