Highlighting healthy lifestyles in Ballysally

Exhibitors promoted stop smoking support, alcohol awareness and cancer prevention messages as well as energy efficiency and home safety tips.

With the evergrowing childhood obesity epidemic, Ballysally Primary School and other organisations locally were keen to tackle this issue in a preventative and health promoting manner.

Many organisations were involved in coordination of the event including Ballysally Primary School, Building Ballysally Together, Focus on Family, Coleraine Borough Council, Supporting Communities NI, Tides training and the Coleraine Education Community Project.

The Mayor at Coleraine, Councillor Sam Cole attended and launched the event.

Speaking on Friday, he said: “Instilling the benefits of healthy eating and making healthy lifestyle choices in our youth of today is a vital step to ensuring these values are passed onto future generations.

“Health Fairs such as this are imperative as they educate and create awareness of the benefits of living a healthy and active life”.

Organisations in attendance at the Health Fair included the Action Cancer Bus, Reid’s Pharmacy, CRUN, Citizens Advice Bureau, Ballysally Youth and Community centre and Council’s Health and Well-Being department, Energy Efficiency, Home safety and Leisure Centre information.

The co-ordination committee would like to thank the organisations who participated in the event which was deemed to be a successful, educational and fun event for all.
