Hillstown Farm open day

HILLSTOWN Farm outside Ahoghill will be hosting an open day on Saturday with plenty of fun for all the family.

The farm has been in the Logan family for four generations and supplies beef, sheep and rare breed pigs to the public through their fantastic farm shop.

The farm has a wide range of animals including cows, sheep, pigs, turkeys and llamas - all of which can be seen during the open weekend.

The Logans’ long-running family farm sells their own fresh produce along with delicious pastries and pies, prepared on site by Hillstown’s dedicated chef.

“We’re looking forward to Open Farm Weekend and are hosting a ‘competitive eating’ challenge for any brave soul willing to take it on,” Nigel Logan said.

He added: “We’ve designed an enormous 2lb prime angus beef-burger with everything on it. And I mean everything! Cheese, ham, bacon, eggs – it’s a monster! We’ve started calling it the Hillstown Humdinger and the challenge is to eat it in one sitting!

“I’m sure there are a few local boys who fancy their luck but last year we had a similar challenge with a 3 foot long sausage roll which proved that a lot of lads round here had eyes bigger than their bellies!”

Nigel and the team at Hillstown are busy planning a fun-filled event with food from the shop available to sample and buy on the day as well as a host of fun activities for the whole family.

You can look forward to cookery demonstrations by a Michelin star trained chef, with plenty of food to eat and sample, as well as a barbecue and hog roast.

There will also be sheep shearing and honey demonstrations, and the kids will get a chance to meet all the farm’s animals.

And there will be fun in the field with free bouncy castles and games, with vintage tractors and machinery on show.

Admission is free.
