It’s knit one, purl one at Forest Glen

Each morning they’ve been joined by talented knitters from the local community for a cup of coffee and a chat while their knitting needles fly to produce dozens of multi-coloured miniature woolly hats to grace the tops of Innocent Smoothie bottles in supermarkets throughout Northern Ireland.

For every bottle sold with a knitted hat this winter, a donation of 25p will go directly to Age NI to support their work for and on behalf of older people across Northern Ireland.

The knit-in is just one of a range of activities at the scheme designed to promote the health and social benefits of staying active throughout life by encouraging older people to try out activities and exercise in a friendly and fun way.

Colette Moore, director of housing at Clanmil, said: “At Clanmil we encourage our tenants to continue to lead active lives as they grow older and we are delighted that the tenants at Forest Glen are so enthusiastic about knitting. Activities and interests such as this help keep both body and mind active, bring tenants together to enjoy each other’s company and help keep them involved with their local community.”

At Forest Glen, which provides 20 self contained apartments for people aged 55+, as well as a knitting group, tenants can also take part in regular social events and a weekly lunch club.
