Jedward hit Lisburn like a whirlwind

X FACTOR stars Jedward hit Lisburn like a whirlwind last Saturday, producing a fun-packed, energetic performance, which thrilled the thousands of fans who packed Wallace Park.

The Irish twins, John and Edward Grimes, said they were “really excited” to be in Lisburn, their second trip to the city in just a few weeks after a visit to Seymour Hill Primary School as part of Comic Relief.

“It brings back lots of childhood memories for us when we used to go to festivals like this” said Edward. “It’s really cool that all the families are here.”

“It’s a huge day out,” added John.

Promising a great show the boys, who will soon release a new album, said: “Right now we’re on our ‘Bad Behaviour’ tour so after this we’re going to head straight down to Kilkenny to perform so it’s really cool that we have the opportunity to perform in Lisburn.”

John continued: “We have so many hardcore fans in Lisburn, Belfast and across the north.”

The duo performed their hit song ‘Ice Ice Baby’, as well as a number of songs well-known from their X Factor days including ‘Ghostbusters’, as well as ‘All The Small Things’, ‘Candy’ and new song, ‘Lipstick’ which they hope will soon be taking over Europe when they represent Ireland in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest, in Dusseldorf on May 14.

“We’re so excited we’re representing Ireland. It’s going to be so big.”

Accompanied to Lisburn by former Irish Eurovision winner, Linda Martin, the boys are certainly looking forward to the popular contest.

“We’re performing last in the semi final so it’s a really good opportunity if we qualify, we’re the last act people will see before the final. The person who won it last year, Lena, was talking about it on German TV and she was saying her favourite song is ‘Lipstick’,” said Edward. “Me and John are the youngest doing it this year, everyone’s really excited.”

The 19-year-old twins said they were pleased to meet up with Joe McElderry once again having been in the same series of X Factor together.

They also had some hair-raising tips for The Star as they explained they had used “loads of extra hairspray” so their hair “didn’t flop” in the heat of the day.

They didn’t have to worry however, as their famous ‘do’s’ stayed perfectly sky-high throughout the performance.

The twins will soon have a new TV show on the BBC and RTE, and they were keen for fans to join them on Twitter in ‘Planet Jedward’.

John added: “It’s cool to be in Lisburn because there’s a really good vibe. It’s a real nice sunny day and it’s a great way to show off the city, it’s great to be here at the carnival.”

Edward concluded: “To all the local fans; your city rocks. Lisburn, it just shows you guys can do anything. Jedward’s here in town to rock out!”
