Join the Silly Squad this summer

Libraries NI is calling on children from across Northern Ireland to become part of their Silly Squad for the digital Silly Squad, Summer Reading Challenge 2020.

The Challenge – produced by The Reading Agency and delivered by local libraries - is going online this year. Silly Squad is a celebration of funny books, happiness and laughter and is a free, exciting way to keep young people aged 4 to 11 years reading during the summer months.

This summer, children will meet the Silly Squad; a loveable bunch of animals who run a fantastic fun house. But beware: a mysterious baddy is waiting to spoil the fun!

The Challenge will be delivered through a fun, immersive and safe online platform. The aim is to encourage children to challenge themselves to read any number of books which makes them happy, in digital or print format, an eBook borrowed from the Libraries NI online catalogue or books they already have at home. Children can sign up for free now by visiting www.librariesni.org.uk.

Throughout the summer there will be online activities, videos, quizzes, games and rewards to unlock along the way. Every child who completes their own Challenge will receive a downloadable certificate.

Jim O’Hagan, Libraries NI Chief Executive said: “During school holidays, it is essential to provide children with access to reading in a fun and relaxed way. Reading for pleasure has many educational benefits for children of all ages and Libraries NI offers a wide range of online reading material for children to enjoy with eBooks and audiobooks available to download instantly.”
