Jubilee flavours take a licking at the Rinkha

The Rinkha has been serving up delicious ice cream for the past 91 years, and when Queen Elizabeth came to the throne 60 years ago in 1952, the Rinkha was there to help the local community celebrate.

Now, for the Jubilee celebration, the Rinkha will once again be at the heart of the community – with special ice cream flavours to mark the anniversary.

Ice cream ‘maestro’ Ross Hawkins has invented two fabulous flavours to mark the occasion – a red, white and blue-coloured ‘Jubilee swirl’, and a delicious ‘Royal Flush’ sorbet.

Ross has spent several years developing ice cream production in the family-owned shop, and has built on the Rinkha’s reputation for excellence in ice cream, as well as adding a few flavours and ideas of his own.

Anyone who has visited the family-favourite shop can’t fail to be impressed with the amazing ice cream display on offer.

Ross said: “ The Rinkha has been at the heart of Islandmagee for nearly a century. We’ve been there through the highs and lows and celebrated VE-Day and the Coronation. As the community needs have changed, we have tried to respond to that.

“Our ice cream is what we are most famous for, it’s what has drawn visitors to the shop from all over Northern Ireland for decades.

“For the Jubilee, I wanted to come up with something completely unique – celebrating the royal colours and providing the very best party food – after all, what is a party without ice cream!

“The two new flavours are Jubilee Swirl and Royal Flush. Jubilee swirl is refreshing and sweet and a real treat.

“Royal Flush was a bit of an experiment, but it works really well. It’s that British summer favourite Pim’s, so very unique and special. And it’s a sorbet, so aimed a little more at adults.”

The Rinkha will also have a free face painter available for children between 2.30pm-5.30pm this Sunday afternoon.
