Keogh’s shamrock-flavoured crisps unveiled in time for St Patrick’s Day

FORGET lucky underwear, horseshoes or heather, those in search of good fortune should look no further than the first ever shamrock crisps due to hit shelves at Selfridges and Tesco this month.

The shamrock is making its edible debut in hand-cooked potato crisps, all produced at the crisping house on the Keogh’s Family Farm.

Coinciding with St Patrick’s Day, the launch will see the premium snacks available to buy in Selfridges and, for a limited period, the majority of Tesco stores.

Already a household name in its native Ireland, Keogh’s is launching its Shamrock & Sour Cream crisps in the UK, alongside other varieties such as Dubliner Irish Cheese & Onion, Atlantic Sea Salt & Cider Vinegar and Roast Beef & Irish Stout.

Keogh’s is the only on-farm producers of hand-cooked potato crisps in Ireland, having recently set up a small crisping house on their farm. Keogh’s sourced the lucky ingredient from Ballinskelligs in County Kerry, an area that has been producing fresh shamrock for the American President since 1952.

Keogh’s Crisps founder, Tom Keogh said: “We know that the British adore St Patrick’s Day and all its food, drink and festivities. While good luck may be a bi-product of our crisps, our main aim is to bring truly hand-made snacks with delicious flavour and exemplary provenance to as many people as possible.

“We are the only potato growers in the world who grow, cook and sell a fresh potato and potato crisp under the same brand. We sleep, eat and breathe potatoes and crisps. The idea for a shamrock crisp came from our absolute pride in being Irish farmers and a constant need to be innovative.”

Keogh’s, the entrepreneurial Irish farmers who have been growing potatoes in County Dublin for over 200 years, have also established Spud Nav.

This innovative online service enables consumers to trace their bags of crisps back to the exact field they came from, by just typing the name of the field from their packet into the Spud Nav link at www.keoghs.ie
