Knocklayde walk expected to raise £3,000

Dozens of volunteers managed the 1600 feet climb recently on behalf of Stranocum teenager, Jade McAfee, who has suffered with a neurological disorder for years.

One of the organisers, Robert Stewart, revealed this week that he was confident of making the £3000.

“We have well in excess of £2000 and we know we have close to another £1000 coming in,” Robert said.

Participants gathered at the Scenic prior to the start of the walk and before leaving , Debbie McAfee, said Jade was immensely proud of what was being done on her behalf.

“She can’t be here today to tell you herself but she is so very indebted to you all for taking the time to do this walk to raise funds for the Hospice movement,” she said

Robert Stewart would like to thank all those who took part including his co-organiser, Ivan King, and The Scenic Inn’s Shirley McKinley for providing food and refreshments afterwards.

“Shirley was very generous and we appreciate it,” Robert said.

He added: “This is our second effort for charity and we can’t get over how generous people have been towards us. I would like to thank Tom Christie for suggesting we climb Knocklayde because it proved a good laugh as much as anything else.”
