Local actors tread boards at Grand Opera House

TWO local girls are getting ready to tread the boards next week when they take to the stage of the Grand Opera House in the professional production of The King and I.

13 year olds Alexandra Dick from Dunmurry and Sarah Mulholland from Crumlin auditioned before Christmas to be part of the cast for this lavish musical, which opens on Tuesday January 31.

The Opera House hosted open auditions as part of its Education and Outreach Programme which sees local schoolchildren have the chance to participate in, be rehearsed and perform in fully professional productions.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest musicals of all time, The King and I recently embarked on a National Tour.

Ramon Tikaram and Josefina Gabrielle take on the roles of the King of Siam and Anna, with local children, including Alexandra and Sarah, taking on smaller roles in the production.

The King and I is at the Grand Opera House from Tuesday January 31 until Saturday February 4. Tickets range between £15.00 - £31.00 and are available from the Box Office on 028 9024 1919, online at www.goh.co.uk or from the Box Office in the Theatre foyer.
