Local men appointed to education body

The CCEA is the statutory body that provides advice to the Department of Education and the Department for Employment and Learning on matters relating to the curriculum, assessment and examinations for children in schools and colleges.

The organisation’s new Chairman, Trevor Carson, is a self-employed Associate Director of BBA Training and an education and training professional.

According to the Department of Education, he brings to the Council skills in leadership and communication, experience in governance, and a knowledge and experience of education.

Mr Carson does not hold any other public appointments and has not undertaken any political activity during the past five years.

Meanwhile, Mr Robert Thompson from Ballyclare was one of seven new members appointed to the CCEA

Principal of Doagh Primary School from 1980 until his retirement in 2012, Mr Thompson was a former board member of the North Eastern Education and Library Board and has considerable experience in governance and a knowledge and experience of education.

Mr Thompson does not hold any other public appointments and has not undertaken any political activity during the past five years.

The term of the appointments is for four years.

The Chair will receive remuneration of £13,000 per annum plus travel and subsistence allowances. Council members are not remunerated but do get travel and subsistence allowances.
