Margey Exhibition at the Ramada next weekend

Local art lovers will be interested to learn that Kilrea artist Adrian Margey is set to return to the Ramada Hotel Portrush next weekend (Fri 4th – Monday 7th May) with a major new exhibition of his work.

Well-known across Northern Ireland for his striking depictions of Ulster landmarks and expressions of Irish traditional culture, Margey promises to delight visitors with his latest collection which has a strong focus on the North Coast.

“This will be my third Annual May Bank Holiday Exhibition in the Ramada Portrush. Visitor numbers have been growing year on year and it is always great to hear what people think of my interpretations of their local landmarks in particular. Mussenden Temple, Dunluce Castle, Ballintoy, Dunseverick, Portballintrae and the Causeway each make an appearance in this exhibition. Nostalgic takes on Donegal and Connemara landscapes are also included. Visitors will see several portrayals of traditional music sessions and Irish dancers too – so quite a broad range of my work will be on show”, enthused Adrian.

The artist has a packed schedule, currently juggling his artistic career with doctoral research at Queen’s University - investigating Entrepreneurship in the Creative Industries. Dividing his time between South Belfast and his Kilrea studio, Margey is increasingly working to private commission for local and overseas clients. Recent commissions have brought his unique take on Ulster to collections in Australia, USA, Canada, Spain and Dubai.

The artist’s inspiration is wide. He cites the Irish Impressionists, the Fauves and the indigenous artists of South America as key influences, and uses a range of palette knife, finger painting and brush techniques to create his distinctive work.
