May Day weekend events at Carnfunnock Country Park

CARNFUNNOCK Country Park is the place to be over the May Day weekend.

On Saturday, May 5 from 2pm – 5pm, there’s the return of the annual Superdog event, with a variety of classes to suit all. There is a charge of £1 per class and all proceeds go to the Dogs Trust thanks to the Latharna Canine and Dog Training Club.

Also on Saturday, May 5 at 8pm there is the opportunity to go a bit batty and discover Northern Ireland’s only flying mammals zipping around Carnfunnock. Let Robin Moffitt of the NI Bat Group tell you all about bats on our Bat Night before venturing outside armed with torches and bat detectors. Price is £4 per adult, £3.50 child/concession including light refreshments. Please wear appropriate clothing / footwear and bring torches. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Sunday, May 6 is International Dawn Chorus Day and Carnfunnock is the perfect place to come and witness the amazing sounds of the birds that are present in the park at this time of year. If you want to know your sparrow from your finch then this is the event for you. The event commences at 5.00am and there will be light refreshments for all those taking part. Priced at £4 per adult and £3.50 per child/concession, booking is essential. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear.

Also on Sunday, May 6 is Mr Hullabaloo’s Puppet Theatre. There will be two spring themed shows at 2pm and 3.30pm in the amphitheatre of the beautiful walled gardens.

On the May Bank Holiday Monday (May 7) visitors can enjoy a day in the park with birds of prey displays and magic shows taking place throughout the afternoon. Bird of prey flying displays will take place at approximately 2pm, 3pm and 4pm with NI School of Falconry providing static displays between times. Magic shows will take place at approximately 2.30pm, 3.30pm and 4.30pm and this year will feature Caolan McBride and his highly visual, energetic and baffling magic tricks.
