Mighty Mojos to debut at BT Blues Club

When Looi from the BT Blues Club heard these guys he just jad to have them in the club.

The Mighty Mojos are a musical blast of fresh air! Refreshing and original, they sound like nobody else out there. A blend of rock and blues songs with killer hooks and grooves, catchy riffs, dynamic drums and bass combined with one of the best vocalists you’ll ever hear! It’s a recipe for a great band. That’s why they’re called the MIGHTY MOJOS.

The guys are a Northern Ireland based blues band who are starting to create a buzz about themselves both in the UK and abroad.

They’ve been in existence for almost two years playing the clubs and pubs in Belfast. They play a mixture of classic slide blues and also their own self-penned numbers, which are getting a lot of airplay on radio in N.Ireland. Part rock, part rockabilly, part blues with a tinge of country, its very hard to pigeon-hole these guys.

They are fronted by Limerick vocalist Alan Ward who growls his way through all the songs with ease. His raunchy dynamic voice completely suits the Blues. He’s influenced by Muddy Waters and SonnyBoy Williams and also plays a mean Harmonica. The Rhythm section contains Davy Kennedy on drums, a powerhouse who’s played various European tours with Them (Van Morrison) and has been a regular on the rock circuit in Ireland for years.

Bass player Ali McKenzie hails from Belfast and grew up listening to Zep, Little Feat and Skynyrd. He’s an extraordinarily expressive and creative player and has also toured with Them, The Bush Turkeys and Mama Kaz. Slide guitar player David McClean has only been gigging for a couple of years but sounds like a veteran. Like a mixture of Wilko Johnson, Rory Gallagher and Joe Walsh. He grew up on a diet of Southern rock laced with Dr Feelgood and Muddy Waters.

He writes and records all the bands original material .

The Mighty Mojos first album ‘Hook Line and Sinker’ has now been released. They’ve done it all themselves from recording it to putting it out there. Seven of the tracks are originals including ‘White Lightning’ and ‘Devil in Disguise’ which are garnering a lot of airplay and praise.

All songs were recorded at David McCleans’ Doghouse studios in Ballymena apart from the two live numbers which were recorded at a gig at the Enler Delta Blues Club in Comber near Belfast. The CD will be available on sale at the BT Blues Club on Saturday 2 February. Doors open at 3pm with the music kicking off around 4pm. Folks, don’t miss this one, it promises to be an excellent day of live music from one of the best bands out there.
