MJ show ‘thrills’ at the Opera House

THRILLER Live moonwalked its way onto the stage at the Grand Opera House on Monday night for a week-long run, and straight into the hearts of the Belfast audience.

The show charts the rise of Michael Jackson, from the cute lead singer of the Jackson 5 to the unrivalled talent of his solo career, as he became the greatest entertainer in the world and undisputed King of Pop, through concert-style performances from several lead vocalists.

Since his death in 2009, Thriller Live has become something of a tribute to Jackson, with fans enjoying the chance to still see his music performed live.

The show drew a diverse range of people to the Opera House, from the older generation to children in replica Michael Jackson-style hats and others waving glow sticks or shouting their love for Michael, it was clear to be seen that even over two years after his death Michael Jackson continues to make an impact on peoples’ lives.

Thriller Live had it all, the glitz and the glamour from the 70s and 80s fashions and the era of Studio 54, to the moonwalking, ground-breaking icon, with classic hits such as Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal and Man in the Mirror, and with audience participation involved, the crowd were on their feet clapping and dancing along as they rocked with MJ’s biggest hits.

The cast produced a stellar performance, replicating the famous moves and reminding us just how great Jackson’s songs were, whether it was I Want You Back, Can You Feel It or She’s Out Of My Life, to Bad, Black or White or Thriller, complete with the well-known dance routine.

Lead vocalists Sean Christopher, Dwayne Wint, AJ Lewis, Ben Forster and Jayd’n Noel-Doninique all delivered superb vocals and the moves were spot on, however, stand out performances on the night certainly belonged to Samantha Johnson and 12-year-old Reece McConnell, who took on the role of young Jackson and is a sure talent for the future, full of charisma and a vocal talent rare for one so young.

Now I just need to dust off my Michael Jackson albums...

Thriller Live continues at the Grand Opera House until tomorrow (Saturday).
