New look Sainsbury’s set to open this week

SAINSBURY’S in Ballymena is inviting local customers to celebrate its multi-million pound revamp with a day of activities when it re-opens on Wednesday, June 1.

To celebrate the re-opening, the store has planned a day full of family fun from 9am, such as giveaways, sampling, music and sports demonstrations.

Bea Cox, Sainsbury’s Ballymena store manager, said: “We are really looking forward to seeing the new store completed. We are now into the final stage of fit out.

“We would like to thank customers and colleagues for their patience over the last couple of months especially during the last few days when the store has been closed.

“We have a whole host of exciting changes for customers including a new café, pizza bar, food to go counter as well as a new deli, bakery and meat and fish counters.

“Customers will also notice a large increase in floor space with a new non-food and TU clothing departments. The beers, wines and spirits department has been moved in-store for ease of shopping for customers.”

Bea added: “Wednesday is about a celebration of our customers, colleagues and our local community. We will be welcoming to the store local paraplegic athletes including Geordie Wallace who was involved in the Beijing Paraplegic Games and he will be taking the actual torch that lit the Olympic flame at the games.”

There will be a free raffle for the first 100 customers for a week’s worth of shopping* (*all the ingredients for the ‘Feed your Family of 4 for a week for £50’ campaign), goody bags at random throughout the day as well as lots of sampling.

“We will also be celebrating the successes of our colleagues. 30 colleagues have been with Sainsbury’s in Ballymena for 15 years since the store opened,” Be said.

She added: “We will be marking that achievement as well as a couple of significant birthdays as three of our colleagues are turning 60.

“We would also like to show our appreciation to McLaughlin & Harvey the local contractors who have worked closely with us during this refurbishment period to ensure disruption to customers was kept to a minimum.

“We hope to welcome back many of our existing customers and to meet some new faces on Wednesday and in the weeks ahead.

“We look forward to our Mayor, local MLAs and a number of our school children from the area being among the first to see the new store.”

The store will officially open at 9am on Wednesday, June 1 with activities throughout the day. Sampling will continue for the rest of the week.
