No Voice win for Leah, but she’ll still be a star

She may not have won BBC TV talent show The Voice, but 23-year-old singing sensation Leah McFall could well have secured herself a lucrative record deal nonetheless.

Leah, the pre-show favourite, was pipped to The Voice UK title by Tyrone girl Andrea Begley in Saturday night’s live final, despite producing stunning performances of Mini Ripperton’s Lovin’ You and Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You.

And while the result of the public vote shocked many, including Leah’s mentor will.i.am, the Carnmoney girl was full of praise for the winner.

“I’m not disappointed at all,” Leah told the Times. “Andrea is an amazing singer and I’m really happy for her. She’s an amazing artist and I just love her voice.”

Leah revelled in the experience of the live final, particularly taking to the stage alongside will.i.am, who has already said that he’s keen to work with his ‘Little Miss Fantastic’ and tipped her to become a global superstar.

After enjoying a post-show party with her fellow finalists, and a quiet Sunday dinner with family members who’d travelled to London to watch the final, Leah reflected on her time on the show.

“It was really good fun and I’m sad that it’s over and sad to be leaving everyone because we all got on so well, but I know we’ll stay in contact.

“In one way I’m sad to be leaving, but it’s also exciting as I’ll definitely be working in the music industry.

“I’ve had so much support all the way through, from family and friends, people back home and all the people on Twitter and Facebook - the people who helped me get into the top ten in the official chart. It’s just been so amazing over the past few months and I’m just so, so thankful.”

Known for her amazing vocal range and quirky style, Leah is set to turn her back on her fashion degree in favour of a crack at a music career.

Just days after the conclusion of The Voice, she’s already been in the studio recording a number of original songs, and she’s hoping she’ll get the opportunity to play some live gigs later in the year.

Speaking to the Times on Monday (June 24), Leah wouldn’t be drawn on speculation that she’s likely to sign a major record deal this week, but she did confirm that she’s had a number of meetings with music industry bosses to discuss her future plans.

“I’m not allowed to say too much at the minute, but what I can say is that the future looks very exciting,” she added.
