Oakfield venue for new shared historyprogramme

The programme, delivered by Education Matters, will explore the rich and vibrant history of Carrickfergus as well as the ordinary stories of people in times gone past.

Funded by the PEACE III Programme through the CAN PEACE III Partnership, the workshops will explore the key historical characters, ordinary folk, key events in the past and explore various aspects of Carrickfergus’ physical heritage.

The programme will also provide an opportunity to research and share your family’s or community’s link with these people, events and places.

The six week programme will run from Thursday October 17 to Thursday November 21 from 9.30am to 1.00pm.

Participants will also have the opportunity to develop research skills and learn how to find out about the past.

At the end of the programme the shared history of Carrickfergus told through the histories of the people, events and buildings will be showcased in a booklet/exhibition created with and by participants.

The programme is being offered free of charge and is open to any resident of Carrickfergus who has an interest in local and shared history.

Numbers will be limited, so early registration is advised.
