Peter Canavam joins host of celebs in charity ‘doodle’

FORMER Tyrone footballer Peter Cananvan has joined a host of celebrities by donating his ‘doodle’ for charity.

Personalities from across the world of showbusiness, politics, business, sport and the arts displayed their creative talents in aid of multiple sclerosis charity Action MS.

The ‘Take Art’ Campaign has already collected a range of artwork from celebrities, set to be auctioned off next month, including an industrial landscape from First Minister Peter Robinson and a Donegal seascape from Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.

The 41 year-old GAA star was among some of the brightest in local sport using their creative flair for the charity.

Golfer Graeme McDowell, Irish rugby captain Brian O’Driscoll, and Dame Mary Peters were just some to take part.

Prime Minister David Cameron has also produced a tiny but fascinating sketch.

The Action MS ‘Take Art’ Campaign was launched at a special reception and presentation in the Long Gallery, Parliament Buildings at Stormont, where the artwork was showcased, and the campaign will conclude with a grand auction to be held in Titanic Belfast on Monday 19 November 2012. The auctioneer will be Daniel Clarke of Ross’s Fine Art Auctioneers.

Speaking about the celebrity doodles, Ann Walker, chief executive of Action MS, said: “We have had a very encouraging response so far with celebrities taking up our invitation with genuine enthusiasm. We look forward to showcasing their work and putting the pieces up for auction. We may well discover some exciting new talents.”

She continued: “We have everything from sketches to watercolours to cheeky caricatures and profound musings on life”, said Ann.

“And we are delighted that Neil Shawcross, internationally acclaimed artist, has generously created a magnificent centrepiece, incorporating a selection of pieces in a wonderful painting. Neil’s original will be the highlight of the auction and we will also have available a limited edition print. This will be an exciting piece of work that will be used in various ways to promote our work. It will also be a great encouragement to those people in Northern Ireland whose lives are affected by multiple sclerosis.”

The works will be on view on Ross’s website, which you can see at www.takeartforactionms.co.uk, and internet bids accepted up until the start of the action
