‘Platform for Art’ atnew Transport Hub

Translink has recognised the artistic talents of pupils at Ardnashee School in Derry-Londonderry at the city’s new North-West Transport Hub.

The North-West Transport Hub, which has now entered operational service, is a major Translink project, representing investment of approximately £27m.

Along with main contractors, Farrans Construction/Rhomberg Sersa JV, Translink invited Ardnashee pupils to produce attractive artwork that could be displayed publicly, ensuring that the Transport Hub is recognised as a facility for everyone in Derry-Londonderry.

The quality of artwork received from the Ardnashee pupils was of a high standard, focusing on their love for their city, healthy lifestyles and the role of the railway and the new Transport Hub.

The pupils received certificates and small medals for taking part in the contest.

The winners were given the chance to enjoy a train conductor experience as part of their day, waving off a Belfast-bound train from the platform.

Speaking at the event, Lisa McFadden, Translink Project Manager, said: “We have been delighted with the level of interest and support shown by the local community in the North-West Transport Hub, one of the most important projects undertaken by Translink in recent years.

“A major part our plan has been community outreach and stakeholder engagement, and along with our contractors, Farrans/Rhomberg Sersa JV, we’ve been delighted to work with Ardnashee School and various other local organisations as we’ve brought the vision of the Transport Hub to reality. It was great to see the quality of the artwork provided by the Ardnashee students, and we’re looking forward to giving the public an opportunity to admire it when it goes on public display here at the North-West Transport Hub. All of the young people who took part can be very proud of the fantastic artwork they have created, helping to celebrate the North-West Transport Hub and what it will mean to the people of the region.”
