Quad-X’s slick machine will keep NW200 running

BALLYMENA based ATV equipment manufacturer Quad-X have been busy developing bespoke equipment for the North West 200 organisers to help make sure this years’ full programme of races goes ahead as planned.

The annual NW200 which takes place in May attracts crowds of over 100,000 as well as the biggest names in the sport including Michael Rutter, Guy Martin, Ryan Farquhar and Michael and William Dunlop.

At last year’s event, racing was abandoned early after only one race as a result of a major oil spill from a competitor’s bike. The spillage, which resulted from a mechanical issue, started at Church Corner and extended to Juniper Hill.

After lengthy attempts to clean the area and following close examination by race officials it was decided that despite the cleanup operation the road was still in a hazardous condition. With the safety of the riders being the key priority, the race stewards had no alternative but to stop racing for the day.

Quad-X, based outside Ballymena, Co Antrim was approached by the head of the NW200 course preparation team, John Adams and Terry Butcher, to develop and manufacture a system that could be used to disperse oil in case of a spillage. Quad-X rose to the challenge and has produced this bespoke equipment which has already been tested and shown to be highly effective in dealing with such a spill.

The NW 200 officials are delighted that the equipment can also be used to apply herbicide. Weeds have already been treated in the Paddock area in preparation of this year’s raceweek which finishes on Saturday, May 19.

The NW200 is one of Ireland’s top outdoor sporting events and with many hours spent planning and organising everyone is looking forward to what is hoped will be a top class event. Quad-X manufacture over 100 attachments for quads and UTVs, and with almost 20 years R&D experience they are well positioned to develop any bespoke machinery you may require.
