Rambling club unveils new programme of winter walks

EAST Antrim Rambling Club has issued its new programme of autumn and winter walks covering the months of October 2012 to March 2013.

The packed programme provides walks on Wednesdays and Sundays throughout the six-month period.

In autumn and winter shorter walks are organised for the second and fourth Wednesday mornings of each month. These start at 10:30am at a designated point in the south Antrim, Belfast or north Down area and last no more than two hours. In spring and summer the club has a programme of walks of similar length covering every Wednesday evening and starting at 7pm from designated points in the same area.

The club’s programmes of Sunday walks provide a longer walk for every Sunday in the year. For these walks the starting points range more widely, commonly in the Antrim or Down area including the Mournes, but occasionally further afield to the Sperrins or Carlingford. These walks are usually completed by around 4pm.

The new programme includes a good proportion of walks in the Mourne area and many of the club’s walkers share transport from a designated meeting point such as Carryduff or Sandyknowes roundabout.

Each six-month programme includes a weekend trip option to a more distant location, most recently to Inishowen. The new programme includes a Co Sligo option.

The club is keen to attract new members and is always ready to welcome as a guest walker anyone wishing to try out one of the walks on the programme.

Full details of the new programme can be found on the club’s website - www.earc.org.uk - or by contacting the Hon Secretary, Mr Jeffrey Johnston, on Tel: 028 9086 4993.
