Rathcoole group lends its support to Hospice

The partnership presented a cheque for £360 which was raised through ticket sales to the charity.

Deirdre Melly received the funds from representatives of the group. She said: “Thank you so much to everyone involved in such a successful event.

“This money will be put to good use at Northern Ireland Hospice and comes at a time when we need your support more than ever before.

“Each year Hospice care for 3,000 terminally ill patients and their families both in Hospice and in the community.

“We closed the doors to Somerton Hospice in November last year as it is no longer fit for purpose. We now need your help in raising £3m to help us rebuild Somerton Hospice through our buy a brick Campaign.”

Chair of Rathcoole Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership, Phil Hamilton added: “The event itself was a great success and families really benefited from a very low cost Christmas themed event.

“The amount raised will make a great difference to those who are ill and in need of a great service that the Northern Ireland Hospice provides.

“It is hoped that the Rathcoole Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership will continue to consider others who are in need when planning future community events.”

The Hospice is running a ‘Buy a Brick’ campaign for the rebuild of it Somerton Road facility and patients are being cared for in Whiteabbey Hospital during the work.
