Record Crowds at the 2012 Causeway Coast Ford Fair

The morning of Sunday 10th June saw rain showers in Portrush but this did not dampen the enthusiasm of Ford fans across Ireland.

Ford enthusiasts began to arrive at the Dunluce Centre to set up as early as 9am and the static car display soon rose to over 350 vehicles representing makes and models from every decade of Ford’s nostalgic past. To everyone’s delight the sunshine made a guest appearance drawing crowds of over 10,000 to the popular Ford event in Portrush.

BBC’s Uncle Hugo took to the stage as Master of Ceremonies entertaining the crowds in his own inimitable style. Hugo was joined by Boxcar Brian and band and they serenaded the crowds with well-loved Country tunes as the people strolled through the hundreds of Ford vehicles on display. The 2012 Ford Fair celebrated 50 years of the iconic Cortina and a fantastic Cortina display spanning the ages was also enjoyed by crowds.

The winner of the prestigious “Car of the Show” award was chosen by the Sales Director of Ford of Britain, Andy Barratt. Andy faced a difficult decision spending much time walking around the static vehicles, finally settling on the 1970 MK1 Escort owned by Gareth Evans. Gareth was absolutely delighted with his award as many long hours have been spent on the Escort keeping it in pristine condition.

A new addition to the 2012 show was the “Photo of the Show” photography competition with a prize of a ‘Tom Tom Sat Nav’ worth £110 for the winning image. This exciting competition has proved very popular and organisers have already received over 100 entries. It’s not too late to enter - simply upload photos taken at the 2012 event to the Facebook page. The competition will stay open for the month of June and the “Photo of the Show” will be announced on Thursday 10th July.

The Causeway Ford Fair offered something to keep all the family entertained and young Ford Fans enjoyed face painting and bouncy castles. The PSNI were also on hand giving crowds a Road Safety display. Visitors got a special opportunity to explore the all-new Ford Focus EcoBoost and Ford Ranger at the Lindsay Ford stand.

The popular Ford event which has been running for the past 8 years, in conjunction with Coleraine Borough Council, was once again sponsored by Lindsay Ford. The British Heart Foundation was the official charity on the day and the crowds generously supported this good cause.
