Red Arrows return!

Organisers Coleraine Borough Council, have confirmed the world famous team will appear on Saturda, August 31.

This year’s show features more jet aircraft than usual including a collection of Cold War era examples such as the Vampire, Hunter and Jet Provost. There will also be a special addition to mark the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic when the North Coast played such a significant role in maintaining supply routes to Europe.

Once again Ireland’s biggest air show will have no admission fee.

Up to 100,000 spectators from all over the country are expected to attend the family event which, in addition to a comprehensive line-up in the air, will feature a non-stop programme of arena shows, family entertainment, sea rescues, exhibitions, competitions, give-aways and the large trade village.

The horse shoe bay at the West Strand is one of the most picturesque settings of any UK airshow with crowds lining the beach, harbour and cliffs from Blackhill to Ramore Head.

The Mayor of Coleraine, Councillor David Harding said, “This event is Coleraine Borough Council’s headlining event for the year as we design, commission and host this two day Airshow spectacular.

“Free for everyone of all ages to come to the north coast and enjoy, we aim to bring a different focus each year, but always with the same vision and goal to entice the Red Arrows to fly over West Bay Beach in Portrush.

“I would like to thank all the sponsors for their support, in particular RSA NI as the headline sponsor.

“I would also like to send a heart felt thanks to all the pilots and the owners of the aircraft, as without their support this event could not take place. The range of aircraft, land acts and kids shows will bring enjoyment to everyone, as we will be attracting thousands to come and stay in Portrush supporting our businesses and local economy.”

The event opens at 11am each day with air displays from 12noon-5.30pm.
