Elwyn joined the congregation on February 1, 2006, just a day after laying down the reins at Clough Presbyterian Church where he and his wife, Mavis, had ministered for the best part of two decades.

Primarily, his responsibilities at West centred on visiting the sick and elderly although he has enjoyed being involved in other aspects of congregational life and preaching at services.

He said: “We have found West Church to be a very warm and welcoming place and have made a lot of friends here.” Now approaching his 76th year, Elwyn intends to spend more time with his wife, son Howard who lives in Edinburgh and his mother (98), who lives in his native Wales, and is also looking forward to continuing as a member of West Church where he will enjoy singing in the choir and preaching from time to time.
