Rotary Club are in a spin for Air Ambulance

The Rotary Club of Coleraine and a dedicated group of spinners will be working hard later this month, raising much needed funds for Air Ambulance NI.

Working in partnership with the Spin Club in Coleraine, they have organised a 12-hour spin challenge in aid of the Air Ambulance charity on Saturday, December 12 from midday to midnight. This is a rearranged event, earlier plans having fallen foul of Covid 19.

Proprietor of the Spin Club, Connie Burns-Wolfe said: “We are extremely pleased to host the event and support this fantastic cause. No one knows when they might need the air ambulance and if we all play our part, it’s there for us all.”

The spinners had been training together at the club and they have continued training individually during the lockdown periods, all to make sure they are physically prepared for the endurance challenge they face this weekend. 12 hours of continuous spin cycling is not for the faint hearted.

The event has been restructured due to the current restrictions and the spinners will now be spinning collectively but remotely, at home and various locations on the day, all aiming for the 12-hour total. The wonders of modern technology mean they will all be able to stay in contact to support each other throughout the event.

Graeme Strachan, President of the Rotary Club of Coleraine, said: “We look forward to raising all we can for Air Ambulance NI and we will also make a 10% contribution to the Rotary Foundation for local good causes.

“My thanks go to all the spinners who will be making the physical effort during the event and I commend them on their perseverance as they have prepared for the big day.”
