Sainsbury’s ‘Shop Local’ Roadshow in Portglenone

SAINSBURY’S is celebrating its commitment to sourcing products from Northern Ireland by marking its 100th new line sourced locally in the last year.

To celebrate the success of local products in stores the supermarket has launched a ‘Shop Local’ roadshow to highlight the range of local produce on offer at locations throughout Northern Ireland.

Arlene Thompson from Sainsbury’s Try Team will be visiting Portglenone on September 10, 2012 to demonstrate how to cook healthy, nutritious meals using local produce.

Companies to benefit from this include new suppliers such as Big Pot Soup from Cookstown and Really Good Foods from Armagh, alongside existing suppliers who have increased lines this year such as Clandeboye Estate Yogurts, Irwin’s and Mash Direct. Products from Northern Irish supplier Dale Farm, such as fresh milk and cream will be the focus of Arlene’s recipes and meals on the day.

This Northern Ireland-wide roadshow will tie in with Sainsbury’s philosophy of helping its customers to ‘Live Well for Less’, paying attention to the fact that household budgets are stretched but customers still want to cook tasty, wholesome family meals.

Arlene Thompson, Sainsbury’s Try Team, said: “Buying local is very important to Sainsbury’s customers so I am delighted to have the opportunity to travel around Northern Ireland and cook with these home grown products. The local offerings in the grocery and fresh food markets are fantastic at the moment and it is great for each company’s commitment and innovation to be recognised both in store and at the local cooking demonstrations.”

The ‘Shop Local’ event will take place in The Women’s Institute, St. Mary’s College, Portglenone on September 10 from 8pm to 9.30pm. Ask in store for more details.
