After seeing the shocking headlines in local papers that Macmillan Cancer Support was facing a drop of more than £525,000 in donations this year, with 76% fewer people registering to host a coffee morning, the staff wanted to offer help where they could.

Amy Donaghey, Event Manager said: “While people were being encouraged to host a socially distanced or virtual Coffee Morning, we felt we could go one better and arranged a whole month of fundraising activities for Macmillan Cancer Support.”

The company took part in a socially distanced savoury bake sale, an auction of skills and promises, car washes, fancy dress days and encouraged staff to donate their loose change all month. Each department was also challenged to set themselves fundraising goals throughout October.

“It was incredible to see the generosity and creativity of our staff during our fundraising efforts, but a standout effort was made by Catherine Byers from our Accounts Department who raised £600 alone running the Virtual London Marathon. We’d set ourselves a goal of £1500 and were delighted to reach that figure halfway through the month and end the month with £2445.24,” said Amy.

Causeway Coast and Glen Macmillan Chairperson Anna White visited Seacoya Group to receive the donation on behalf of the charity.
