Sunday opening hours have been extended in Antrim and Newtownabbey.

The Council says it has made the move to help retailers across the borough manage customer volumes and ensure that social distancing can be adhered to.

The relaxed enforcement will allow the larger retail shops to continue to open or deliver from 10am rather than 1pm on Sundays, until March 28.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery said: “It is extremely important that the health and wellbeing of our residents is put first during this pandemic.

“These extended opening hours aim to manage the volume of shoppers making it a safer shopping environment for both staff and customers.

The earlier opening times better facilitates our key workers, healthcare workers and those with disabilities. I would urge everyone to continue to wear their face coverings, be respectful of others by social distancing and only shop when it is deemed essential.”
