Slieve Gallion part of Four Peaks challenge

The organised challenge involves reaching the summit of four peaks across the province of Ulster over two consecutive Saturdays - that’s two peaks per day: County Derry/Londonderry’s Slieve Gallion at 528 metres on the edge of the Sperrins and Mount Errigal, County Donegal’s highest peak at 751 metres on Saturday 23 August then Northern Ireland’s two highest peaks Slieve Donard at 850 metres and Slieve Commedagh at 767 metres the following Saturday, 16 August.

Justine Fleck, Mencap’s area fund raising manager said: “The challenge isn’t insurmountable, and with Mount Errigal and Slieve Gallion not too far away, it is an exciting way to build your fitness, challenge yourself, or a great team building opportunity that will test endurance and promises to be a whole lot of craic!

“All money raised by Mencap in Northern Ireland stays here, so by putting on their hiking boots everyone who takes part enables us to continue to support children, young people and adults with a learning disability and their families so they can fulfil their dreams and potential,” she said.

“While the view from each mountain is very different, our vision is a world where people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included. By taking part and sharing in that vision, people with a learning disability benefit.”
