Something for everyone at East Antrim U3A

At the latest general monthly meeting in Carrick’s Joymount Hall recently, chairman David Nesbitt warmly welcomed existing and potential members and asked interest group leaders to report on their activities.

Leader of the art practical group, Valerie, announced weekly sessions in Joymount Hall, on Tuesdays 2-4pm, with new members especially welcome.

Stretch and Relax continues Wednesdays, 10-10.45am in Joymount hall.

Computer Starters (second Thursday of the month) and Family History (first Monday in the month at 10.30am) meet in Carrickfergus Library.

Gardening, which is mainly hands-on, is enjoyed on the third Monday in the month, with leader Margaret continuing to share expertise on the likes of dividing plants and sharing seeds.

Music and Theatre met in Carrickfergus Library recently to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment by Mr Alec McDonald.

Opera Shingleside is a wonderful experience for those wishing to try opera for the first time.

The reading group meets regularly in Carrickfergus Library while Visual Arts, having recently enjoyed an outing to Titanic Quarter, Belfast, are planning next a visit to the Waterfront exhibition by the Royal Ulster Academy.

The recently formed crafts group meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 2pm in Carrickfergus Library.

The walkers enjoyed a 10-mile trek at Dungonnel Way, Glenariff, and more recently the scenic Lagan Valley.

French Conversation is proving a popular pastime on Wednesdays in Carrickfergus Library 2-3.30pm.

Ballet and Opera outings include the Grand Opera House to enjoy Oklahoma, and The Nutcracker in December. The Odeon, Belfast, for Swan Lake will be their destination on Tuesday, October 23.
