Something wicked this way comes to the IAC

THE highly acclaimed Icarus Theatre Collective presents a bold and exciting new production of Shakespeare’s most bloody and fear-filled tragedy – Macbeth.

Something wicked this way will come to Lisburn’s Island Arts Centre for one night only on Friday March 9, when Icarus Theatre Collective and South Hill Park Arts Centre, in association with King’s Theatre Portsmouth, present Macbeth, directed by Max Lewendel.

The vicious, barbaric undercurrent in Shakespeare’s epic tragedy erupts in this kinetic, blood-thirsty production that goes straight for the jugular. Blending the original verse with original music and evocative gothic design, this slick new version is perfect for audiences new to Macbeth and those already well acquainted with Shakespeare’s tragedy.

Victorious on the battlefield, Macbeth’s nobility and bravery are rewarded by an indebted king. But with each enemy slaughtered to serve Macbeth’s own vaulting ambition, his lust for power takes a deadly turn until he ferociously usurps the kingdom. His reign, baptised in blood, spirals out of control and Macbeth’s deeds come back to tear him down.

Icarus Theatre Collective launched in 2004. Lauded as one of the most fearless and dynamic theatre companies in the UK, receiving critical accolades including Time Out’s Critics’ Choice, and winning awards from as far afield as Romania, this new production goes straight for the jugular. Blending traditional and inventive physical theatre techniques, original music, evocative design, and using the original verse, this slick production is perfect for audiences new to Macbeth and those already well acquainted with Shakespeare’s tragedies.

Tickets for the show, running time approximately 2 hours 30 minutes, including interval, are priced £12, £10 for concessions and are available from the Box Office on 028 92 509 254 or online at www.islandartscentre.com
