Sowing seeds is so easy

This is a good time of year to choose seeds which can be sown indoors in March with a little heat, or outside late April to early May when the days are longer and the soil warmer.

The new season seeds have arrived with almost hundreds of varieties of flowers, vegetable and herbs.

All seed packets have a wealth of information on the back giving detailed instructions on how to grow the seeds, with good pictures on the front of the packet.

Buying seeds from a garden centre it allows the gardener to choose from a huge range and also get good advice on choosing and growing the seeds.

Half hardy annuals can be sown direct into the soil from early May and also most vegetable seeds, especially vegetables with tap roots, such as carrots, radish, beetroot and parsnips.

To newcomers to gardening and growing seeds, a very useful booklet is available from the garden centre, published free by Mr Fothergills Seeds, and

also members of staff are available for help and advice.

Good luck with seed sowing
