Stargazing delights at Lough Neagh Discovery Centre

Astronomy fans across the Craigavon Borough are urged to join the Irish Astronomical Association for a spectacular evening of stargazing and culinary delights at Lough Neagh Discovery Centre on Saturday, December 7.

Organised by Craigavon Borough Council in partnership with the Irish Astronomical Association, the event will kick off at 6.30pm with a two course meal in Loughside Café.

Tantalise your taste buds before checking out magnificent star shows in a mobile planetarium followed by celestial views of the Moon, and fascinating Jupiter with its four large Galilean moons, plus a lot more! All this is of course weather dependent.

There will also be an exhibition of the best photos taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, ground-based observatories and IAA members and a fascinating display of telescopes, binoculars and amazing meteorites.

Andy Griggs, Craigavon Borough Council’s education, events and activities officer, comments, “This event is a fantastic opportunity to dine with the stars and find out more about the wonderful night sky and the stars which shine bright in outer space in preparation for BBC two Stargazing Live showcase event, at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum. Experts will be on hand throughout the evening to answer everything you ever wanted to know about astronomy, stars and planets – a great night out for everyone!.”

Booking is essential for this event. Cost is £5 entry for stargazing experience only (commencing at 7.30pm) or £15 for the stargazing experience and a two course meal (commencing at 6.30pm in Loughside Café).
