Starring role for mini

AFTER almost giving up hope that they would be able to find a suitable car to star in their production of ‘The Boys in the Photograph’, Fusion Theatre found the solution to their search closer to home than they could have hoped.

The production features a car, a mini to be precise. After making enquiries, which drew a blank, the local youth theatre group realised that their move to premises on the Lisburn Enterprise Centre had provided a solution, as the unit next door to them is occupied by a motor mechanic, Colin Morton who just happened to be working on a 1960’s mini. The car is owned by Michael McGinn, who generously agreed to let his car take this starring role.

Fusion stage manager Neil McGarry said that none of this could have happened, had it not been for the group’s move to the premises at Lisburn Enterprise Park. Not only has the move meant that the group found the mini which they had been looking for, but the move has meant that the group are able to build their set, and rehearse on the set, from an early stage, and rehearse at times which fit in with the heavy work, school and other commitments of the cast, and volunteers.

Colin Morton, whose unit is next door to the Fusion, said that he was delighted to be able to help.

Anne McCleary, Chairperson of thanked Lisburn Enterprise Organisation for their support, which she said has been key to the move, and to the ever increasing output of the group.

“The assistance of LEO has been hugely appreciated by the cast and volunteers, who also acknowledge the financial support of the LAAC, St Anne’s Cathedral Sit-out, and in particular the Arts Council of NI (lottery funded),” she added.

The production is on stage at the Island Hall from February 8-11, and tickets are available from the Box Office on 92509254 or www.tickets.lisburncity.gov.uk. Fusion is looking forward to meeting representatives of the Really Useful Group who will be attending to see this Ireland premiere.
