Summer Fun at the Giant’s Causeway!

Yes, summer feels like a long time ago (at least here on the North Antrim coast!) but it was only last month that the National Trust team at the Giant’s Causeway welcomed four local summer schemes onsite for a day of stories, discovery & messy arts and crafts!

Members of the team & National Trust volunteers welcomed 120 children over four days from Bushmills, Derrykeighan, Liscolman & Mosside, and led them on a journey of discovery down to the Giant’s Boot.

On their guided walk the children were delighted to spot numerous lizards basking in the sunshine; this, the beautiful wildflowers, butterflies, moths & the exciting drama between Finn McCool & Benandonner, proved to local children and adults alike that there’s more to the Causeway than ‘a pile of stones’!

Once back at the Community & Learning Centre at Innisfree Farm, the children enjoyed a well deserved lunch then set to work on some warrior arts and crafts, inspired by the mighty battle!

Art Ward, Community Engagement Officer for the National Trust, Giant’s Causeway, is keen that these groups plus more return next summer. Art continues: “It was so fantastic to get local children up to the Causeway. Many of them had never had a chance to visit before and we hope to welcome them again next year when our new visitor centre will be open for some more fun and games!”
