Swann welcomes Roads boost

MR Robin Swann, Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and his party’s candidate for Westminster for North Antrim has “warmly welcomed” the New Year roads boost for the constituency from his party colleague and Transport Minister Danny Kennedy MLA.

Assemblyman Swann, who is also UUP Chief Whip and North Antrim UUP Chairman, issued his statement as Minister Kennedy unveiled that an improvement scheme representing an investment of around £270,000 is set to get underway on the A44 Drones Road, Ballymoney.

The resurfacing scheme is expected to begin on Monday 12 January and will extend from Kilmandil Road, northwards for approximately 2.2km towards Knockahollet Road. The scheme is expected to be substantially completed by Friday 23 January.

Minister Kennedy said: “This scheme will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this stretch of the A44 carriageway serving Ballymoney and towards the North Coast.”

To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors, traffic management including a closure of Drones Road will be necessary from 12 to 23 January. Well signposted diversions for through traffic will be in place via A26 Frosses Road and C86 Knockahollet Road. Local access will be maintained.

Assemblyman Swann added: “This is a terrific New Year boost for the constituency and is further evidence of the Ulster Unionist Party delivering for the people of North Antrim.

“As we enter 2015, we want the year to be remembered as one of safety on our constituency’s roads, as well as improvements to the existing roads network which will both make it easier for constituents to travel throughout North Antrim and to greatly assist the constituency’s economy and tourist trade.”
