Switch on to volunteering

LOCAL people are being invited to volunteer in a project aimed at raising awareness of the Digital Switchover that will be happening in October.

TV is going digital in Northern Ireland and soon the traditional TV signal will be switched off. Anyone who doesn’t have digital TV by the time of the switchover, their screen will go blank.

“As a volunteer you can help raise awareness of the switchover and the BBC’s Switchover Help Scheme to people who are most in need within your community. Your role will be to speak to key and trusted people within local communities to find ways of reaching and helping those people who need it most,” explained a spokesperson for Volunteer Now.

“Training and support will be provided to help you in your role - you will be part of a local team ensuring that no-one gets left behind when switchover happens.

“Volunteer training is taking place on Thursday, September 6 at 34 Shaftesbury Square, Belfast from 10am to 2pm - lunch will be provided. No previous experience is required. Volunteers don’t need to be technically minded, just friendly, willing and able to talk to people where they live. Volunteer expenses will be reimbursed,” she added.

Volunteer Now are currently recruiting volunteers in Carrickfergus. Anyone interested in learning more should email [email protected] or telephone 028 9023 2020.
